Sevier County’s Cooper Newman & Jude Costner helped the Smoky Bears dominate on the gridiron yet again

Sevier County High School visited the Vikings of Tennessee high last Friday night. They did the same thing they have done all year, dominated. The Smoky Bears have outscored all of their opponents this year 238-15 in a total of five games. A good reason for the success has been strong quarterback play.

Cooper Newman is the Sophomore signal caller for Sevier County. He had a very successful night against the Vikings. He was 22 for 26 with 316 yards and 7 touchdowns. Newman is a highly talented, young player. He makes it extremely difficult on defenses to try to figure out where he is going with the football.

Another player that made a big impact Friday night was #21 Jude Costner. He is a senior who plays OLB & TE. He had 5 catches for 93 yards and 4 touchdowns. Because of his exceptional night against the Vikings of Tennessee high, he was the your high school sports player of the game.

Like Newman, Costner has been one of the reasons that Sevier County has been successful so far this year. His ability to block on the offensive line, catch passes, and even run the ball makes it even more difficult on defenses.

Costner is also a great defensive player. Just like on offense, this Sevier County team is loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball, and Costner is one of the reasons.

For Newman and Costner, it was a special night. With their level of talent, the rest of the season should be exciting.
